Introducing The Roost

The Roost is a rollicking culinary clubhouse spanning the entirely of Blackbird’s ground floor. A drinking and dining consortium, The Roost brings together a handful of the district’s finest chefs along with a lively & eclectic collection of the region’s most compelling food, beer, wine and spirits purveyors. From artisan coffee to soft serve sundaes, pizza, burgers and tacos to refined cocktails, stellar wine and an inimitable beer hall and garden to a full service restaurant and so much more, the Roost is your personal playground right here at home.

Cameo

With a nod to the culturally rich DC community, Cameo offers coffee and tea sourced from around the world. This all-day cafe and neighborhood gathering place will rotate through a lineup of direct-source coffee and tea while prioritizing ecological & socially responsible choices - from the beverages served, to packaging and zero waste practices, to the makers with which we partner.

Shop Made In DC

Shop Made in DC at The Roost is a highly edited ‘storelet’ featuring a small capsule collection of wares and goods from 40+ DC creatives. As they have done with their other locations, it will serve as a hub for local makers with a packed schedule of classes, activation and programming throughout the year.

Shelter

From the minds behind ChurchKey, The Sovereign, Bluejacket and others, Shelter will feature many of the key elements that have come to define the group's beer concepts. You can expect 50 taps, two cask engines, a temperature-controlled system and extensive glassware - along with a near-frenetic rotation of the world's finest craft brews.

State Fair

State Fair features playful riffs on composed sundaes using homemade frozen custard, replete with all of the delicious sauces and toppings you’d expect, and several more that you won’t. Pastry Chef Allie Cheppa will complement the standards with seasonal sundaes, sundae flights and a create-your-own sundae bar.

Slice Joint

Slice Joint celebrates true, New York style pizza. And with Rachel Marie, who earned the title of “Pizza Regina” during her 4 years manning the ovens at Roberta's, the proof is in the pie. Her New York and Grandma style pizzas are available by the slice and whole, and rely on the finest seasonal ingredients.

Show of Hands

Show of Hands is a craft cocktail and wine bar that will highlight low-alcohol drinks backed by a stellar portfolio of wines by the glass. Spirits Director Nick Ferrell has designed Show of Hands as a neighborhood gathering place, though it’ll undoubtedly find its mark as one of DC's great bars.

Hi/Fi Taco

Hi/Fi is an all new concept from Nathan Anda, the mad genius, chef and butcher behind Red Apron, The Partisan and B Side. Nate’s genuine love and appreciation for tacos will shine through with his clever takes on the classics along with some fun twists on the sides.

Leni

Richmond based Chef Brittany Anderson will plant roots in the district with Leni, and all-day cafe that will pay homage to 1970's eastern European health trends with a menu featuring her modern take on noursihing whole grains and fermented foods.

Red Apron

The Roost marks Red Apron’s fourth location here in the region - and will feature a greatest hits menu culled from their deep arsenal of handmade charcuterie, burgers, sandwiches and all the meaty goodness they've become known for.

AKO By Kenaki

Ako by Kenaki is a sushi and omakase from the siblings Ken & Aki Ballogdajan. Fans of their Gaithersburg, MD restaurant will be familiar with their signature Makimono rolls, along with an expanded menu of new creations.

Caruso’s Grocery

The Roost’s one and only standalone restaurant, Caruso’s Grocery, is modeled after the once ubiquitous classic Italian ‘red sauce’ joints. Chef Matt Adler has crafted a menu that pays homage to the past with an emphasis on fresh seasonal ingredients.
